I. POSITION TITLE: Social Worker II. QUALIFICATIONS: A. Education Level: Master’s degree in social work from an approved social worker preparatory

program required; South Dakota Certified Social Worker certification required.

B. Experience Desired: Experience in a school setting. Experience working with and knowledge of

local agencies is preferred.

C. Other Requirements:

1. Demonstrate a high level of cultural competence, sensitivity and responsiveness.

2. Knowledge of restorative practices.

3. Knowledge of trauma informed care relevant to school settings.

4. Strong organizational and time management skills.

5. Possess effective oral and written communication skills.

6. Communicate effectively with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds.

B. Director of Diversity, Equity, & Federal Programs IV. RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: A. Building Principal V. SUPERVISES: None VI. BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provide direct and indirect services to students and families to address any issues that impede the

educational process. VII. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: A. Conducts multi-tiered school needs assessment.

B. Identifies scientifically supported educational, behavioral, and mental health services to address

student and school needs.

C. Identifies school and community resources to meet school and student needs.

D. Establishes collaborative professional relationships within the school, district, and community.

E. Assesses and improves family engagement; support families in communicating effectively with

school personnel.

F. Knows current federal, state and local laws as well as district policies and procedures that guide

school social work practice.

G. Advances student-centered school environments that are conducive to learning, demonstrating

respect for differences in culture, background, and learning needs.

H. Contributes to a safe and healthy school environment.

I. Advocates for policies, programs, and services that respect diversity, address individual needs,

and support the inherent dignity and worth of all students, families, and school personnel.

J. Identifies historical and current political, social, cultural, and economic conditions that impact

the context for learning and advocates for change.

K. Challenges structural barriers, social inequalities, and educational disparities impacting learning

outcomes.

L. Implements and monitors multi-tiered empirically supported interventions that improve

academic and behavioral performance.

M. Provides programs and services that foster social and emotional competencies.

N. Provides specialized services such as crisis intervention and consultation.

O. Provides programs and services in a culturally sensitive manner.

P. Mobilizes school and community resources to maximize academic and behavior success.

Q. Adheres to the standards and practice requirements set by the South Dakota Board of Social

Work Examiners.

R. Adheres to the NASW Code of Ethics, and SSWAA ethical guidelines.

S. Maintains timely and accurate records and documentation in compliance with FERPA and state

requirements.

T. Continues professional development.

U. Exhibits self-awareness, self-monitoring, and professional accountability.

V. Participates in building level team meetings such as RtI, Student of Concern.

W. Demonstrates leadership and consultation for trauma informed practices, restorative practices.

X. Attends Diversity, Equity, and Outreach department professional development, staff meetings,

events, and activities as requested.

Y. Perform other duties as assigned. VIII. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board of education’s

policy on evaluation for professional personnel. IX. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine (9) month work year. Salary and work year as established by the board of education.
