The primary purpose of the position is to perform laboring duties that require moderately heavy physical effort requiring the use of common hand tools and power equipment involving any or all of the following duties. In order to accomplish the laborer duties, the incumbent must on a regular and recurring basis also operate light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located in the park.
The incumbent cleans stools, lavatories, and sanitary receptacles and maintains a stock of cleaning supplies in restrooms, supply rooms; and custodial closets. The position responsibilities also include: Cleans public use buildings and restrooms; washes windows and doors; and mops and power buffs floors. Waxes, sweeps, and polishes metal surfaces. Dusts and vacuums display units and empties ashtrays. Collects and empties garbage cans. The incumbent will mix cleaning chemicals for proper cleaning and sanitizing solutions. Operates power-cleaning equipment designed to clean granite floor areas in buildings. Operates carpet equipment to include vacuums and carpet shampooing equipment. Moves and arranges furniture as directed. Washes and waxes cars and trucks by hand or using powered buffer. The incumbent may operate powered riding or push lawn mowers, which may require heavy physical effort and clears small to medium size trees using handsaws, clippers and weed-trimmers. The incumbent also operates power cleaning equipment on walk areas. Shovels or uses snow blowing equipment. Sweeps and picks up litter from sidewalks, trails, roads, and grounds. Uses shovels, rakes, tampers and other hand tools to dig ditches and trenches, slope landscape, excavate/fill holes and finish grade landscaped areas. The incumbent assists higher graded employees in a variety of maintenance duties to include: painting, masonry, carpentry, mechanics, and sculpture maintenance. Helps mix and pour concrete and performs minor carpentry such as repairing shelves, screens or doors. Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from trucks and dollies. Moves heavy boxes, cartons, or luggage by hand, hand-truck, or dolly and opens crates and boxes using crowbars and cuts bands using shears. Stacks boxes and cartons where directed. Neatly arranges storage areas for easy access of materials. The incumbent will operate standard pickups, UTV's and possibly other vehicles for park operations.
