Assistant Cook

JOB TITLE: Assistant Cook

SALARY: Based on experience

DUTY HOURS: 8 hours per day, Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: The person in this postion will assist with safe food handling (preparation, packaging, receiving, storing, cleaning, and documentation) for the Rapid City Meals on Wheels program. Assist the cook in preparation of the meal services to home-bound seniors and congreate dining in compliance with all State and Federal food safety and sanitation regulations.

DUTIES:

• Display a positive attitude and flexiblility in changing situations
• Assist in meal preparation, cook all side dishes, serve Home Delivery meals in compliance with portion control, and clean the kitchen with proper sanitation procedures.
• Measure and package bulk food items to send to other Sites.
• Set up and clean up the site serving area in compliance with health and sanitary regulations
• Responsible for washing the home delivery trays and the Site dishes.
• Assist and/or perform cook's duties in their absence.
• Assist in the delivery of meals to River Ridge residents.
• Attend all staff meeting and in-service training as required.
• Complete and pass ServSafe within 30 days of hire and maintain certification.
• Other duites as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school education or equivalent.
• Food Handler Safety certification preferred.
• Prior institutional or commercial food related work experience.
• Competence in handling stressful situations and working under pressure.
• Prior experience and patience working with or relating to elderly persons of all races and income levels.
• Proficient in mathematics, reading, writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to lift from 25-50 pounds as required.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision and be able to work independently and make decisions.
• Must possess a valid South Dakota driver's license with an excellent driving record and an insured vehicle.
• Must be able to pass a background check.
• Must demonstrate an ability to function successfully in a tean environment.
