JOB DESCRIPTION I. POSITION TITLE: Paraprofessional K – 12 [English Language Learners (ELL)] II. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: A. Education Level: Meet one of the following paraprofessional

requirements as defined by law: forty-eight (48) semester credits, an
Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college, or successful
passing of the Paraprofessional Assessment.

B. Experience Desired: At least one (1) year of experience in a position
requiring interpersonal skills and knowledge of programming for students
preferred.

C. Other Requirements: Regular attendance is essential. Ability to work
unsupervised. Maintain a regular work schedule as determined by the
supervisor. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated computer proficiency with experience in word processing,
databases, and spreadsheets. Confirmed ability to work as a team
member and demonstrated organizational skills required. Demonstrated
positive attitude towards people with whom one works. Ability to work
cooperatively and willingness to accept instructions and training.
Demonstrate safe work habits. Good physical health including ability to lift,
push, pull, drag, lower, carry a minimum of forty (40) pounds. III. REPORTS TO: Director of Federal Programs/Grants and Assessments IV. RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Title I Parent and English Language Learning Program Coordinator V. SUPERVISES: None VI. BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE OF POSITION: Assist English Language Learner teacher in instruction of identified students to

improve their English proficiency and academic skills.

VII. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: A. Demonstrate strict standards of confidentiality.

B. Assist with language instruction of assigned students under the
supervision of the supervising teacher. Assist with the basic needs and
academic support of assigned students in cooperation with the classroom
teacher and program coordinator. Carry out programming as indicated on
the student’s assessment plan including entering and monitoring transition
goals/objectives.

C. Assume responsibility for small group and 1-1 instruction as directed by the
classroom teacher. Assist in facilitating classroom activities as directed by
teachers.

D. Assist in the implementation of student supervision in the classroom and
lunchroom, and on the school grounds.

E. Assist in the accurate maintenance of daily record keeping and data
collection of confidential and non-confidential student records.

F. Participate in ongoing professional growth activities as determined by
program coordinator. Takes part in district and building in-service
opportunities. Attend meetings as designated.

G. Stay informed of the current McKinney-Vento policies, procedures, and
community resources. Work cooperatively with homeless education
coordinator in accessing community resources.

H. Assist in maintaining student records (charting, assignments, attendance,
data for progress notes).

I. Demonstrates and maintains clear, accurate communication of student
performance with students, staff, administrators, and homeless education
coordinator.

J. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information.

K. Participate in parent-teacher conference and other educational meetings
when requested by supervisors.

L. Monitor and comply with federal, state and district policies and procedures.

M. Perform other duties as assigned.

VIII. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of
the board of education's policy on evaluation for support staff. IX. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine (9) month work year. Salary and work year as established by the board of
education.
