Fermilab’s Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) and Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) Project team is seeking an Installation Manager. The LBNF/DUNE Project is hosted by Fermilab in Batavia, IL, and includes participation from universities and laboratories from around the world. The project includes construction of a beamline and detector at Fermilab and a large underground detector at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota. LBNF/DUNE project will design and construct one of the largest proposed neutrino experiments in the world over the next several years.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, oversees shift installation activities for the LBNF/DUNE Far Detector and Cryogenics (FDC) team. Organizes personnel and daily work activities related to FDC activities supporting cryostat installation, infrastructure installation and detector installation. Oversees planning, including ESH and quality control processes, conducts job site discussions, and organizes acceptance inspections. Serves as a liaison to various project groups to ensure that they are informed of installation activities, and that schedules are not conflicting.
YOU WILL:
- The position is for a period of up to three (3) years, with the potential for extension considered on a yearly basis thereafter, and subject to continued funding.
- Coordinate installation activities with other Project activities, including mobilization and set up of equipment and processes, utility service interruptions, shaft coordination, and Laboratory provided services and equipment.
- Lead and organize teams of mechanical technicians and other specialists to efficiently execute planned installation activities.
- Development of procedures to support installation activities
- Facilitate installation team planning to include ESH planning and quality control processes, job site discussions, hazard assessments for the scope of work and work acceptance inspections. Ensure training requirements are met.
- Interact with other Integration & installation personnel, including the Installation Manager, Services Manager, Engineering Manager and Activity Coordinators to provide efficiency in installation shift operations.
- Review plans and specifications, and recommend revisions where appropriate, including to support procurement activities.
- This role requires rotating shift work including nights and weekends. Shifts are 10-12 hours
- Assist in in obtaining, or arranging for procurement of, associated material and the preparation of cost estimates and renews existing or initiates new construction and service subcontracts
- Inspect work in progress to ensure that materials, equipment, and work standards, schedules, safety, environmental protection, and quality requirements conform to contract specifications, applicable construction codes, engineering drawings, ES&H Plans, applicable OSHA Standards, and hazard analyses.
- Provide technical interpretation of design documents and provides specific expertise for problem solving activities
- Establish and maintain effective communication between the field and engineering to ensure the timely flow of design documents and information
- Report the progress and status of field activities to the Installation Manager
- Support daily field operations following FRA site standards, policies, and procedures.
- Experience with using a document management system
- Has the ability to use MS Office, particularly Excel
- Ability to use a computer for writing reports, and creating presentations
- Has the ability to work within a team multicultural atmosphere
- May serve as a Fermilab Task Manager, planning and supervising work for subcontractor workers.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate’s degree or equivalent in related field with a minimum of 7+ years of heavy industrial/commercial experience or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field with a minimum of 5+ years of heavy industrial/commercial.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Experience in overseeing and managing heavy industrial/commercial construction is required. Knowledge of all construction disciplines, including conventional construction, electrical, mechanical, survey, cryogenics and building automation is desired.
Physical Demands: Lifting up to 80 pounds as needed, frequent walking, sitting and standing during 10–12-hour work shifts, working in extreme climate conditions above and underground with limited visibility during winter conditions. Working on time sensitive deadlines and work delivery time.
