General Purpose: Responsible for managing all accounting functions within the credit union. This includes ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and supporting Finance leadership. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

* Prepare and review financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
* Develop and maintain internal controls and procedures to safeguard the credit union's assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
* Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient department operations. Ensure all statistical and financial reports prepared by accounting staff are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
* Ensure all financial activities comply with federal and state regulations pertaining to the accounting function, including filing necessary reports. Maintain awareness of new trends and advances in the Credit Union industry.
* Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and examinations. Responsible for preparing audit schedules and supporting documents as deemed necessary by auditors and Finance leadership. Implement audit recommendations as directed by Finance leadership.
* Assist Finance leadership with preparation of the annual Credit Union budget.
* Responsible for managing and directing people and/or resources with fairness and consistency to meet departmental goals. Promote teamwork and encourage process improvement, while creating a positive work environment where employees feel recognized and valued.
* Responsible for evaluating accounting staff, determining talents and development opportunities, and working with accounting staff to improve performance, enhance skills, or create loyalty to the credit union. Conduct timely employee performance appraisals and coaching, and effectively resolve employee issues and performance concerns.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

* Assure the development of individual and department plans and budgets that are consistent with the strategic plan and overall budget.
* Lead or participate in financial projects, such as system implementations or process improvements.
* Perform specific and delegated duties as assigned by the VP Finance or Chief Financial Officer.
